Ice hiding in spent shade— while sun gropes with blind rays past rust
and salt, shivering in gusts oblivious—hopes
gloaming shade will suffice, will shunt imprecise solar
fingers away. Slowly crystals melt, water
seeps and creeps, a slow slur until cold recurs. Steep drop
temps refreeze earth’s top, and clouds block sun.
