Stopping Spring

by Todd C. Truffin

Ice hiding in spent shade— while sun gropes with blind rays past rust

and salt, shivering in gusts oblivious—hopes

gloaming shade will suffice, will shunt imprecise solar

fingers away. Slowly crystals melt, water

seeps and creeps, a slow slur until cold recurs. Steep drop

temps refreeze earth’s top, and clouds block sun.

Todd C. Truffin is a poet and teacher. His work has been seen in Pilgrimage, The Lamp-Post, and the IPPY award-winning anthology O! Relentless Death!: Celebrities, Loss, and a Year of Mourning.
